Writing by schedule or inspiration-which works for you?

I am curious to know how other writers set up their time and what limits they have (if any) for creating content if they write for more than one site.

I have thought seriously about printing myself a strict calendar, designating a "site of the week" and sticking to it. My problem is that I miss my favorite so much, that I am putting all my eggs into my favorite basket.

Do you guys stick to one place per month or write for one site one day and another the next? And if you have blogs how do plan your posts around your other writing goals?

I am really interested to learn how others pick and choose when and who to write for and why.

Ideally I would love to pick a site and just go with it for awhile. When my enthusiasm wanes I will look around for something else. It's nice to have a couple of sites that are more for fun than income as they can break the tension.

I'm not nearly as prolific as most people who call themselves writers. I just don't have the time and am generally pretty exhausted by the time I find enough peace and quiet. One big thing that has helped me is that I now ignore the phone. During the daytime there are only three numbers I will answer a call from and they know not to call unless it's important.

I've only recently paid any attention to my blog... we'll see how long that lasts.

I agree that it is a nice break to write just for fun and not worry about keywords and traffic all the time. I really envy those who can type 100 words per minute and produce 100 good articles in 30 days.

I have never cared about keywords, seo or any of that. Those 'formulae articles' are garbage.

(hit reply accidentally). I tend to write evey day. for different sites. I think one just has to write every day and then publish on the most appropriate site.

I have no pattern. It tends to change week by week based on factors like time, the season of the year, or what I am doing in real life. For example, I just spent a weekend building new raised garden beds for someone and I took pictures along the way. I'll turn that into an article that I'll post to a personal blog and while I'm at it I might write a couple of supporting articles like how to mix soil for the bed and how to keep critters out. After that, I will probably gravitate to another site.

I use different sites for different purposes, so I don't like a strict schedule because I start to lack motivation. I like to write about things I enjoy or am interested in. When these topics make good articles for ads I post them to a site that is best for ads. When they make great products articles I post them to my favorite Amazon sites. When they are likely to generate traffic but not ads or sales I tend to put them on sites where traffic is the key.

I have set writing goals in the past and I will continue to, but goals per site is just not something that I enjoy. I also like to take a couple weeks off every now and then to update or improve past articles. Whenever I read something that I wrote 6 months ago I find that a change will do it good for one reason or another.

Interesting, thanks! I find that I am way over-extended online with all my blogs and writing sites and backlinking sites. This doesn't include Facebook or Twitter either. You know you have too much on your plate when the thought of outsourcing tweets enters your mind.

LOL! Yep! That's how I'm starting to feel. On one hand, I worry I may have spread myself too thin. On the other, I'm still kind of new to this kind of writing. I have a full time job, so this is bonus money for me. I'm still trying to figure out which sites I like best.

Writing by schedule works better for me. I have a to do list every day and set time slots for each thing. It helps.

It is a challenge, that's for sure! I cant seem to write anything at night. I am a morning writer. Then I have to decide:
Which site today?
How many should I do for that site for that day?
Should I do one article for each place, then a blog post?
Should I stay on one site per day, week, month?

I end up on Seekyt......ha ha

I think I need a schedule! Looking forward to seeing what others have to say. I hope more people will chime in here!

You-tube is going to be the death of me...all those cute kitten and puppy videos I need to keep away from. Once I break away from the baby animal videos, endless browsing on eBay and reading perfume reviews kills my day.

Now I understand why some people set their computer to be offline
